For a few hours, the 2008 Olympia Weekend won’t be all about the mass monsters. This year, the 202 Showdown, a new IFBB Pro contest, will make its debut on Olympia Weekend on Saturday, September 27, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This is a weight limit contest with all competitors having to be 202 pounds or under, and gives guys sometimes lost in the shuffle among 250 pounders a chance to take center stage.
Since we first announced the inaugural 202 Showdown at the 2008 Olympia Weekend, we’ve had a barrage of emails and questions concerning the contest. We have finalized all the details. First and foremost, athletes can qualify by placing in the top five of any of the three 202-pound shows this year at the New York Pro held on May 10, the Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships on August 9 or the Europa Super Show on August 15-16. The Olympia committee will also give special consideration to inviting athletes who have competed in one of these three contests but who did not place among the top 5. Second, athletes who qualify for the Mr. Olympia competition and who meet the weight limit will be allowed to compete in the 202 Showdown on Saturday afternoon.
